Kashmir (India)

3rd June 2011:
After a long night on the train, we arrived in Jammu (1st city in Kashmir) very early in the morning and it took us 11 hours by jeep to reach Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. Kashmir is the northwestern region of India, located between the Great Himalayas and Pakistan. Srinagar is a beautiful city surrounded by snow peak mountains. It's mostly famous for its lakes and houseboats, saffron and cashmere wool.
Many tourists don't make the journey up to Kashmir because of the conflict between India and Pakistan. Fortunately for us the situation was calm and we didn't have any problems.

From the jeep, going up to Srinagar.

This is the zig zag road, the journey was like this for 11 hours.

The Dal lake in Srinagar.

The fort Hari Parba, a military camp that can't be visited.

A lot of people live in these house-boats and most of them are used as ghesthouses in the higher season.

The famous "Shikara", the traditional Kashmiri boat.

Cafes on the lake.

Srinagar at sunset.

Gulmarg (50km from Srinagar), 3500m high.

Wild horses.
