21st May 2011:
Located in the State of Uttar Pradesh, on the river Yamuna. Agra is mostly famous for the Taj Mahal and the red Fort (Agra Fort).
The Taj Mahal meaning "crown of buildings" is a mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his 3rd wife Mumtaz Mahal. It's one of the most beautiful and recognisable structures in the world. It's also one of the finest Mughal architecture that combines Persian, Islamic and Indian styles. The Taj is made entirely of white marble and has became UNESCO World Heritage in 1983.
The Taj is built on a square marble platform. This architectural feature gives you a background of the sky from any angle.
Throughout the complex, passages from the Quran are used as decorative elements. In this picture you can see the calligraphy around the entrance.

We were the 1st to arrive at 5.30am, we had the whole site to ourselves for about 1/2h.
The four 40m high minarets were constructed slightly outwards, so that in the event of collapse, the towers will fall away from the mausoleum.
